The climate is very varied . The winter average temperature is about -18 degrees. The summers are about +25 degrees .

The vegetation in the Canadian Shield is mainly coniferous forests . In the north there's many large trees but in the south the small trees grow mainly .

The Canadian Shield cross almost the whole Canada , from north to south . There are ice-scoured areas , the maritime areas , low mountains , islands and so on .

Arctic Region

1. Find a map that shows you the Arctic Region in Canada. Explain what you see in 3-5 sentences.




























This is the overlooking on Arctic Circle . In Canada , Russia and other countries , there are some areas in Arctic Circly . There is very cold because it's the westest part of earth .
2. Find a picture of the Arctic region you like or don't like. Explain what you see in 5 sentences!





















This is an explore in Arctic Region . The explorer sits on sled which goes by dogs . With sled as mainly transport , dog is a very good way . If he drives a car or rides a bike in the explore , he will forward hardly .



3. The Arctic region's climate has long, cold winters and short, cool summers! There is very little precipitation in this region. What would your life be like if you lived here? Explain in 5-8 sentences.
I must wear very warm clothes because if I wear as in Beijing , I cannot bear the low temperature at all . And maybe I can build a ice house like Eskimo by myself to live in . I will have fish as my main food and make fire to roast it , I don't like health food but health fishes are also very delicious .

The area which is full of mosses and lichens . The land is coveraged with them so the trees cannot grow.


7. Find a picture you like of the Arctic tundra. Post it! Explain what you like about it in 3-5 sentences.

This picture is black and white . It's not colorful but it can shows more the features of Arctic tundra - can only grow mosses and lichens , no more plants . It's barren . Maybe there's rainy oftenly because of the mosses .

Western Cordillera Part 2

1. Find a picture of the Douglas Fir. Post it. Have you seen this tree?



























I have seen a tree looks very like it but I'm not sure it is Douglas . In our school .
2 How can you remember what this tree looks like and it's name?
Think of a famous unversity called Douglas . It's a kind of pine trees so remember what it looks like.


3. Find a picture of Western Hemlock. Have you seen this tree before?

















Maybe on my way of once trip .


4. When you look at a Western Hemlook, what is special about this tree. Tell me 3 things about this tree?
(1)The tree is very tall , likes going into the sky.
(2)The leave of the tree is few .
(3) The tip of the tree is sharp than bottom.

5. There are many mountains in this region. What do you think happens to the vegetation when we get higher up to the mountain? Can you guess?
The vegetation may be fewer and fewer . Because when we get higher up , the elevation will also be higher , but the temperature will be lower . So many vegetation cannot live here expect moss.


6. In the southern part of the Western Cordillera region, there is less rain. If there is less rain, do you think the great evergreen trees will grow?
No . Because the evergreen trees do not need very lots of water to keep alive . They use less water than any other kinds of trees to grow.



7. The largest trees in the world exist in this region. They can be found in the United States because this region is very long and goes all the way down into Canada's neighbor!!! These trees are called "Giant Sequoias".a. Find a picture of a Giant Sequoia you like. Explain why you like or don't like it in 3-5 sentences.




I like it . This kind of tree is very huge but it has a special beautifully . It is not elegant but spectacular . If there are many Giant Sequoias one area , they looks like nature old palace that with many columns .
8. What did you learn today? Explain in 5-8 sentences. Be serious!!!!
I learnt three kinds of trees in the western Cordillera area today . Douglas Fir , Western Hemlock and Giant Sequoia . They have their own special points and I know the vegetation in the Western Cordillera area is very different . I also tried to explain some question I don't know with my knowledge . But I don't think always learn vegetation or geography is good for us ... some of them are unuseful . Like this three kind of trees . I think today's bonus is better than them , though I don't do it .

THE WESTERN CORDILLERA

1. Find a photograph of the Western Cordillera Region. Post it.


















2. Find a map of The Western Cordillera region.Explain what you see in the map in 3-5 sentences.























This region is in the western of Canada - just like its name . The square is not as big as the regions we have learnt like Great Lakes or Interior Plains - the mountains are distributed . Look like some small islands in the map .


3. Find picture you like of the Rocky Mountains.Explain why you like it in 5-8 sentences.

















This is the overlooking view of Rocky Mountains . The mountains are separated by rivers and canyons . Almost in each mountain , one side of it is deep blue . I don't think it's water's colour . Maybe the land of mountains there is special or a kind of uncommon plant? The square of whole area is long , like a wallof the Western Cordillera .


4. The Rocky Mountains are fold mountains.

a. How are fold mountains made? Use your OWN words to explain this process.
The earth crust was crowded by volcanic eruptions in many many years ago . The rocks and mountains change their own face and become fold mountains .
b. What are some other examples of fold mountains?
Andes Mountains and Himalaya Mountains .

This is Andes mountains . The tops of mountain are sharp , like some knifes . White snow lies in the top - maybe the elevation is very high , or there isn't such cold . The rock has many edges and corners , like the kind of this mountain - fold mountain .
6. There are a lot of mountains in this region, would you want to live here?Tell me three reasons why or why not.
NO.
First , the region of a lot of moutains means there's no more plains , so I cannot grow common crops there . I don't want cactus or thorns to be my main food .
Second , the traffic is not convenient . I cannot see my friends or go out for traveling . Not as good as you let me die !
Third . I think almost young people will refuse this strange motion . Because we have used live in cities .


7. What did you learn today? Explain in 5-8 sentences.
The geography of the Western Cordillera . I see the map of it and know the square of it . I also went to Rocky Mountains and saw it in the sky . This area is fold mountains and that kind of mountains always has long history . And see the picture of it . Every class I see many different beautiful views of Canada .

The Canadian Shield

1. Find a map of this region. Which provinces are in this region?












Northwest territories , Manitoba , Ontario and Quebec .


2. Translate erosion. What is erosion? Explain in your own words.The climate of this region varies greatly. There are colder winters in the north.
Some chemical changes that can make things erode .


3. Why do you think the climate of this region will vary? Explain in 3-5 sentences. Look at the map of this region and think about it.
Because the region goes a very big square , from north to south . Not only the north cold area but also the south warm area , they are all this region . Because the area acrosses large square , the climates are very different .


4. The vegetation of this region is mostly boreal forest. What is special about a boreal forest? Explainin 3-5 sentences.
Maybe they always keep green in all the seasons . Their leaves won't fall down ike pine trees . They can live in very cold area because of their special frames .

This is a small land with vegetations in the water . Waves go to the rocks and dash them lightly . Maybe we can go boating here and goes flow the water's direction . See the beautiful views of two shores in the boat . That's must be a amazing visit .


6.There is a lot of mining in this area. The Canadian shield is sometimes called a "mineral storehouse" because it has a lot of valuable minerals like lead, copper, gold, zinc and nickel.

One , I can excavate many minings and sell them for money . But it is bad for environment .
Two ... maybe I can take my employees there to have a trip as the encourage to them . Because there is not only enough minings but also beautiful views.
